Frequently Asked Questions

Getting started

What is ThreadLeap?

ThreadLeap lets you share Gmail™ email threads via a simple link. Recipients can view the full conversation — messages, formatting, and attachments — without needing a Gmail™ account.

How do I install ThreadLeap?

ThreadLeap is a Google Workspace™ Add-on for Gmail™. Once installed, you'll see the ThreadLeap icon in your Gmail™ sidebar when viewing any email.

Do recipients need a ThreadLeap account?

No. Shared threads are viewable by anyone with the link. The recipient just opens the URL in their browser — no login or account required.

Plans & pricing

Is ThreadLeap free?

Yes! The Starter plan is free and includes basic sharing features. Paid plans unlock additional capabilities like analytics, password protection, custom branding, and more. See our plans page for a full comparison.

How does billing work for teams?

Business plans are billed per seat. The team owner is the billing account holder, and the subscription quantity automatically adjusts as members join or leave the team.

How do I manage my subscription?

Go to Settings → Billing in your dashboard to view your current plan, upgrade, or manage your subscription.

Sharing threads

How do I share an email thread?

Open the email thread in Gmail™, click the ThreadLeap icon in the sidebar, choose your sharing settings (access type, expiration, etc.), and click Share. You'll get a link to copy and send to anyone.

Can I password-protect a shared thread?

Yes, on Pro and Business plans. When sharing, select "Password protected" as the access type. Recipients will need to enter the password before they can view the thread.

Can I set an expiration on a shared thread?

Yes. Starter users can choose 1-week or no expiration. Pro users get additional options (2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months). Business users can also set a custom expiration date.

What happens when a shared thread expires?

The link stops working and visitors see an "expired" notice. The thread data is auto-deleted based on your preference (default: 1 week after expiration). You can change this in Settings.

Can I edit a shared thread after sharing?

Yes, on Pro and Business plans. Open the thread from your dashboard to change the expiration, access type, password, or URL slug.

Can I use a custom URL for my shared thread?

Yes, on the Business plan. You can set a custom URL slug (e.g. threadleap.com/s/my-custom-name) instead of the auto-generated one.

Branding & customization

Can I add my own logo and branding?

Yes, on Pro and Business plans. Go to Settings → Branding to upload a logo (with an optional dark-mode variant), set a custom accent color, and hide the ThreadLeap branding from your shared threads.

Can I use my own domain for shared links?

Vanity domain support is available on the Business plan. You can configure a custom domain in Settings → Branding so your shared links use your own domain instead of threadleap.com.

How does branding work with teams?

When you're on a team, the team's branding profile is applied to all shared threads created by team members. Team admins manage the branding settings; individual members inherit the team branding automatically.

Teams

How do teams work?

Teams are available on the Business plan. A team owner creates the team, then invites members via a secure invite link. All team members get access to Business plan features, and shared threads inherit the team's branding.

How do I invite someone to my team?

Go to Settings → Team and copy the invite link. Send it to the person you want to invite. The link is valid for 7 days and can be regenerated at any time.

Can I be on multiple teams?

Not currently. Each user can belong to one team at a time. To join a different team, you'll need to leave your current team first.

How do I leave a team?

Go to Settings → Team and click "Leave team." Your shared threads will remain but will no longer carry the team's branding.

Analytics

What analytics are available?

It depends on your plan. Starter users see total view counts and message counts. Pro and Business users get detailed analytics including unique viewer counts, referrer tracking, and view-over-time sparklines.

Viewing shared threads

Can I view shared threads on mobile?

Yes. The shared thread viewer is fully responsive and works on phones, tablets, and desktops.

Can I print a shared thread?

Yes. The viewer has a print-optimized layout. Use your browser's print function (Ctrl+P / Cmd+P) and the page will format cleanly for paper or PDF.

Does the viewer support dark mode?

Yes. The viewer follows your system dark mode preference by default. You can also toggle it manually using the moon/sun icon in the header.

Privacy & security

Who can see my shared threads?

Only people who have the link (and the password, if you set one). Shared threads are not indexed by search engines.

Is the content of my emails encrypted?

Shared email content — messages, sender details, and attachments — is encrypted at rest using per-thread encryption keys. ThreadLeap decrypts content when rendering your shared threads, so this is not end-to-end encryption.

Can I delete a shared thread?

Yes. You can delete any shared thread from your dashboard. Deletion is immediate and permanent — the link will stop working and all data (messages, attachments, view history) is removed.

What data does ThreadLeap store?

We store the email content you choose to share (messages, attachments), basic view analytics (view count, referrer, timestamp), and your account info (Google™ name, email, avatar). See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Account

How do I sign in?

ThreadLeap uses Google™ Sign-In. Click "Sign in with Google™" and authorize with the Google™ account linked to your Gmail™.

How do I delete my account?

Email support@threadleap.com and we'll delete your account and all associated data.

Troubleshooting

The Gmail™ add-on isn't showing up

Try reloading Gmail™. Make sure you're signed into the correct Google™ account. If you recently installed the add-on, it may take a minute to appear. You can also try uninstalling and reinstalling from the Google Workspace™ Marketplace.

The add-on shows an error when I try to share

Make sure the email thread is open (not just selected in the list). If you see a permissions error, try re-authorizing the add-on. If the problem persists, email us with a screenshot.

My shared link shows "expired" but it shouldn't be

Check the expiration date in your dashboard. If the thread is expired, you can extend it. If it was deleted (manually or by auto-delete), the link cannot be recovered.

Images or formatting look wrong in the shared view

ThreadLeap renders the original email HTML as faithfully as possible, but some complex email formatting may not translate perfectly. If you see a specific issue, email us with the share URL and a screenshot.

Still need help?

Email us at support@threadleap.com. When possible, include:

  • The share URL, if the issue is about a specific thread
  • Screenshots of the problem
  • Your browser and device
  • The Google™ account email you used with ThreadLeap
